Gmail for iOS Updated to Support Multiple Accounts, Lock Screen Notifications and More

|

iPhone 5 users can now have Gmail app optimized for their new 4 inch retina screen display as Google has announced the updated Gmail version 2 app for iOS devices. There are many more features on the table and it seems Google has taken some inspiration from their Google+ and Chrome app for coming out with a brand new UI design for Gmail app.

The new Gmail app would let users have multiple accounts like for personal and corporate use. This feature was introduced in the Gmail app for Android some time back. Users will be able to configure up to 5 accounts in an iOS device. However, just like the Android app, the iOS version too has the unified inbox feature missing from the enhancements. It would have been better for Google to have introduced so that users can see messages across these 5 accounts in a single place.

With this new Gmail app version, there is more integration with other Google services like Google+ and Calendar app. Users will now be able to respond directly to Calendar invites or Google+ notifications directly from the app itself. You can see the posts on Google+ almost in real-time from the Gmail app itself. Moreover the Gmail notifications can now be received on the iOS lock screen itself. Google still has some issues to fix like the difficulty in scrolling between mails if one email is open and also improper caching of emails.

Gmail version 2.0 for iOS is definitely a huge advancement over the previous app especially on the UI side. It looks more intuitive and navigation friendly with a cleaner look. However, experts believe that many more user friendly features of Sparrow app could come to Gmail soon as now it is a part of Google trade.
