LG Enters Next-Gen Home Appliance Domain with Fridges, Cookers That Chat

LG may have been in the news recently for a host of new smartphones that it has been currently launching to catch up with the ever-growing market, but now it seems like the company is seeking more out of technology with new advances.

According to reports, LG has introduced a brand new text chat service that will allow fridge owners to see what food they have inside it, apart from controlling other home appliances from the company.

LG Enters Next-Gen Home Appliance Domain with Fridges That Chat

The technology has arrived via a new app that will connect you to your other LG-made home appliances via chat service. So any queries you might have about shopping before heading home from office, the appliances can effectively let you know.

"Today's intelligent home appliances offer a variety of useful functions but many consumers still find setting them up an extremely complicated process." said Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company.

"Not only does LG HomeChat help simplify and enhance our products, they also deliver a unique user experience, adding even more value to our customers' lives."

The number of LG-based electronic appliances that can be connected with via the app include LG's Smart Refrigerator, LG's Smart Washing Machine and Smart Lightwave Oven.

LG's HomeChat service basically incorporates the popular LINE application to allow users to receive recommendations and control settings when away from home. The HomeChat service's intuitive interface makes communicating with LG's smart refrigerator, washing machine or oven much like chatting with a real human.

For more convenience, the company writes, "the Quick Button feature enables fast and easy access to each appliance's most commonly used functions."

HomeChat also gives users the choice of three different modes: Vacation, Away and Return-home. LG's new service also incorporates a bit of fun to appliances, offering a selection of over 40 unique LINE stickers to add an enjoyable, personal component to conversations.

As of now, the app can only be used for the service in South Korea. However, LG said it planned to extend it to the US and other markets at a later date.
