Apple to pull the plug on free ad-supported iTunes Radio

Apple announced that it will be pulling the plug off its ad-supported free iTunes Radio on January 29th. The service will no longer be free and will come only with Apple Music.

Apple has sent emails to its customers stating that the iTunes Radio will be available only to subscribers of Apple Music and that the service will no longer be free. iTunes Radio which is available only in the US and Australia will now be a part of Apple Music.

iTunes Radio is a service can auto-create playlists and club custom stations based on genres or specific songs. One can start a Radio Station based on the artist, song or genre and Apple Music uses the algorithms to offer similar related music. However, Beats1 Radio station will continue to be free and outside the realm of Apple Music.

Apple earlier revealed that it had 10 million paid subscribers to its Apple Music service. A surprisingly high number of music subscribers for a music streaming service in such a short time.
