Ford to integrate support for Siri Eyes Free to 5 million Vehicles dating back to 2011
While several car-makers are beginning to integrate the Apple ecosystem into their vehicles, Ford has decided to make integrate an older Siri feature into Apple - the Siri Eyes Free feature. The Siri Eyes Free feature is designed to help minimize driver distraction when they use Siri while driving. Thus drivers do not need to look at their iPhone screens while interacting with Siri when they are driving.

Siri Eyes Free is activated through a button on the Steering Wheel and will be available with several Ford cars dated as early as 2011. Ford officially announced that it will launch the Eyes Free support through a software update. The feature will be integrated into Ford cars through SYNC infotainment system.
"SYNC, Ford's entertainment and communications system, was designed to be flexible and updatable, just like other mobile technologies, so our customers are able to get the most out of their smartphones while behind the wheel," said Sherif Marakby, director, Ford Electronics and Electrical Systems Engineering. "Siri Eyes-Free is another great voice-activated feature that not only adds convenience but helps our customers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel."
The Eyes free feature was being tested at Ford factories and some of the new Vehicles from Ford are running the SYNC software which allows drivers to use Siri as they drive without the distractions. However, Ford was waiting for the software update being developed for its cars. Now the update is officially announced and then make it available for its car owners.
Apple has listed Ford as one of its partners for CarPlay, but Ford is yet to announce any plans to integrate support for its upcoming vehicles. Such an update can be expected from Ford probably next year.
