Google Maps utilizes Fast food stores to provide better navigation to some users
Google now offers navigation tips by making use of the fast food joints as reference points.
We all must have experienced the hardship in locating the street numbers and names of the nondescript roads while visiting them for the first time. It further becomes more difficult in case you are travelling alone and have to manage to look on the screen and at the road simultaneously.
However now, Google Maps may bring a sigh of relief for the users based out of US. Google is planning to roll out more intuitive navigation features in the US. As per some reports from the CNET, Google now offers navigation tips by making use of the fast food joints as reference points. The whole idea related to the new feature is to give the users direction based on stores that are easily recognizable by most of the users. Similar to Google Maps navigation which instructs users to make a turn at a particular road intersection, it will guide the users based on such restaurants and another point of interests.
The new method of giving directions is said to be similar to how a person would give direction to their friends, rather than relying on road names that Google Maps has at the moment. Even though CNET has confirmed that the feature is available for the users based out of New York, however, Google has not released any official announcement regarding the same. It is also not clear whether the company would include other popular stores like the tech brands, clothing brands or automobile dealership etc. It could be a possibility that Google will use the brands that are easily recognizable to the users and are hard to miss out.
Being the most popular navigation app all over the Google Maps goes through a lot of changes. For the Indian users, Google has introduced Smart Address Search feature last month. The new feature allows a user to look up addresses based on nearby landmarks, popular businesses, or point of interests. The feature is said not to use food joints in order to make navigation easier, however, it is close enough and we can expect a larger roll-out soon.
