Google Photos will limit the quality of uploads for Pixel 2 users after 2020
Regulatory documents from Pixel 2 have revealed that users will only be able to save pictures and videos in their original quality till 2020.
Google has managed to grab a substantial amount of attention lately with the launch of a variety of products and gizmos led by this year's flagship smartphones, Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The products introduced by the technology giant are all too exciting and technocrats and enthusiasts are happy about the innovations that have been implemented to design each product.
The latest news, however, is a bit contrasting and may disappoint Pixel users to a fair bit. Google Photos is a great platform to back up those numerous photographs and videos that acquire a large portion of the Pixel's internal storage. However, regulatory documents from Pixel 2 have revealed that users will only be able to save pictures and videos in their original quality till 2020. Thereafter any photograph that has a resolution more than 16-megapixels and videos with quality higher than 1080p will be downsized. This news contrasts with Google's promise made to Pixel users that it would allow users to upload unlimited pictures and videos in their original quality for, well, forever.
A spokesperson from Google further elaborated, "With Pixel 2 you get free, unlimited original-quality storage for photos and videos uploaded through the end of 2020, and free, unlimited high-quality storage for photos uploaded afterward. After 2020, there is no change to the photos you took before 2020 and you will always have access to those in original quality. This is new for this year. We know that people tend to change their phone every 2-3 years so for Pixel 2, we are offering storage in line with that."
This also leads us to a contemplation that Google may have a schematic for a replacement to Google Photos in the future since 4K resolution will take over faster than you can actually imagine.
