Starting today Facebook-owned Instagram has launched a new feature called 'Focus'. This feature is meant for clicking pictures in portrait mode, the one which was reported last month. While this is the same camera feature which Apple offers with its default iOS camera app.

This step will be a challenge to social media rivals life Snapchat as it doesn't come with such camera features. Interestingly, this new addition is coming to the iPhone 6s and later.

The Focus icon was spotted last month on the Android Instagram application. The company has shown green flag to the new feature by confirming the update during a press release.

How will you find the Focus icon and how it works?

When you open the camera, you'll see "Focus" next to "Superzoom" under the record button. Take a selfie or switch to the back-facing camera to find a friend. As soon as there's someone in the shot, you'll notice the person stays in focus while the background softly blurs - making sure they stand out in a striking way. Simply tap to take a photo or tap and hold to record a video. When you're done, you can add creative tools like filters, stickers and text to your photo or video before sending to your friends on Instagram Direct or adding to your story, Instagram described the feature.

So users will be getting the new Focus icon in-between the Boomerang and Superzoom option. The new feature will allow users to shoot portrait photos along with the bokeh effect.

Surprisingly, the portrait mode will work on both the sides of cameras and it hardly matters whether you are clicking a selfie or a normal picture from your rear camera, the new update will automatically blur the background and subject will remain in focus.

How to use this new Focus feature?

For using this new feature, the user needs to go to the story section on their profile and swipe towards the left to right. There you can see the 'Focus' option just after Boomerang. The user needs to select the mode and you are good to go.

For focusing objects users need to tap on the screen to get the clear focus in the object or person, whom so ever they want to get in the focus. However, Instagram has not removed any of the other creative touches like filters, sticker and text. These options are also applicable to the picture or videos captured in the Focus option.
