This App will let you know if your smartphone has missed on an Android security patch
SnoopSnitch is the app using which a user can check whether their device is running on the latest Android Security patch or has missed on an update in the past.
It was recently discovered that the Android smartphone manufacturers were skipping on releasing the occasional security patch for their devices. The Android security updates is an important aspect of an Android smartphone's security firewall. So skipping on one update could be a threat to device's security and the users might not feel safe while using their devices. As we mentioned earlier it was only recently discovered that some OEMs skip the release of monthly security updates for their smartphone and mostly the entry-segment phones were the victims. Some brands even mislead their customers by releasing a renamed security patch which usually is not up to date.
It was also reported by the Cybersecurity analysts from Security Research Labs (SRL) that apart from the missed updates some OEMs also lie about releasing the security updates altogether. For our readers who might be worried about their security, we would like to add on that there is a new app in the market that will let you know if your smartphone manufacturer has missed on any security update.
As we mentioned in our previous article related to the same that the flagship devices hardly misses on an update, it is the entry segment devices and the mid-range devices that don't get the regular monthly updates. The devices from the companies like Xiaomi, Huawei and Motorola tend to miss on these updates and it is like a common practice among these manufacturers to mislead a user when it comes to monthly security updates.
SnoopSnitch is the app using which a user can check whether their device is running on the latest Android Security patch or has missed on an update in the past. A user can follow the steps given below to check if their device is running on the latest Android security patch or not.
1. Download the SnoopSnicth app from the Play Store (Free)
2. After the app is downloaded, open the app and tap on the 'Click here to test patch level' tab
3. On the next page, tap on the 'Start Test' button to begin the Android security patch test
4. Once the test is complete, a user will know the actual Android security patch version running on their device, alongside other information like if the device is running the latest security update or not, the number of past security patches it has missed, inconclusive tests, etc.
