WhatsApp delete for everyone will show quoted messages
This feature of WhatsApp’s ‘Delete for Everyone’ could be worrying.
Back in November last year, WhatsApp rolled out the Delete for Everyone feature for its users. This feature was well received by the users as it is one of the highly-anticipated ones that will help them delete a message that was sent by mistake to a wrong person or an unintended group. However, there are some restrictions associated with the same.
Notably, users can delete the wrong WhatsApp messages for everyone only within seven minutes of sending it. There are a few tricks that we have already seen how to delete the WhatsApp messages even after seven minutes. Leaving this aside, a new report has surfaced online suggesting that the quoted messages cannot be benefited from the delete for everyone feature.
A report by The Next Web notes that the messages those have been quoted will still appear in quotes even if you have deleted the same for everyone. The report highlights that this is not a bug as it is a part of the delete for everyone feature.
Notably, you can send a message and delete it group the individual or group chat within seven minutes for it to disappear. But if the message has been quoted by someone else in the group within the time frame of seven minutes, then you can delete the original message and make it disappear but the quoted text will still be visible in the chat.
Interestingly, the WhatsApp FAQ section does not reveal how this feature actually works for the users. This issue has come to light following the reports wherein the researchers have claimed to find out shortcomings of the implementation of the delete for everyone feature in WhatsApp.
One of the shortcomings already created a buzz in the industry as it lets users read the deleted messages from the Android notification history. It is possible for users to browse the notification log to take a look at the deleted messages using third-party apps. However, this claim was rubbished off as another report tipped that the approach can recover only the delete messages those were already read or interacted with.
Having said that, it would be great if the Facebook-owned instant messaging platform comes up with an alternative approach to delete even the quoted messages and make them disappear from the chat window.
