WhatsApp launches two new features alongside UPI-payments
Currently, the features are only available for iOS users only.
WhatsApp, after rolling out the UPI-based payment system, has now pushed two new features for its users. The new features include the ability to switch between voice and video calls on WhatsApp and to see unread texts by tapping on the '@' mention button.
Unlike the new payments option, these features are rolled out for iOS devices only and are yet to make their way to Android devices. To take full advantage of these features, users need to update the app to the latest version.
How it works
Once a user makes a call to any of their contacts through the app, they will see a video icon on the screen. This button can be used to switch to video calls once the voice call is connected. If the other user is trying to switch to video call, the screen will prompt a request for you to accept the video call.
The calling system of the app is said to be well optimized to work even with slower networks. The new feature will also help users switch calls according to the network strength. Also, to use the feature, both users should be using the updated version of the app. The app will also show whether the recipient has the latest feature or not.
The '@' button
With the new update, iOS users will now be able to see the unread messages on a group chat. Users will be able to see messages where they were mentioned by other members of the group.
This will be a welcomed feature as group chats sometimes involve messages that are irrelevant to some members.
What else?
WhatsApp has also rolled the new UPI-based payments feature for the Android users, however, iOS users will have to wait a little longer to transfer/receive money through the app.
The new feature lets users transfer money directly from their bank accounts to their friend's account directly via the app. The app now offers a dedicated option for the UPI-based payment option. Unlike other mobile wallets, the new feature doesn't support payment option for merchants, and users can only make bank-to-bank transfers only.
