As Google Maps application is getting ready for launch, another popular mapping application, Nokia Maps has announced a version update.

Nokia updated the popular mapping apps – Maps, Transport and Transit have been updated with new features and support for Windows 8. As per the official sources, Nokia Maps app is updated to version 3.0 and now can be used on larger screen display devices running on Windows 8 platform like the Lumia phones.

There were already reports on Nokia working on updating their mapping applications for the newly launched Windows 8 OS. Version 3 of the Nokia Maps app will come with enhanced features like full offline maps support and built in Nokia Drive feature.

Offline maps support will help users to download and view maps offline. Nokia Drive feature will help users to get walking directions. However, only Windows phone 8 users can now enjoy this updated Nokia Maps 3.0 and other Windows platform users need to wait longer to try out this new Nokia app.

There are also updates coming to the other mapping application from Nokia, the Transit app. Users can now get a composite segment map and in depth route overview with this Transit app update. You can also have new icons for bus, subway, train and tram which could make navigation much easier.

There is also provision to compare the best routes available for any given points based on the given day and time. Transport app gets a new user interface and now support higher resolution displays.

These updates are mostly relevant for users on Windows Phone 8 devices such as Lumia 820 and Lumia 920.
