Rdio Music Streaming Service Now Comes To India: Is Spotify The Next?
It seems that the high-profile streaming music service wars have already started to emerge in India. Rdio, the digital music service, has announced its official entry in India, beating its close rivals in the music streaming business, including Spotify and Pandora. The Rdio app is now available to download from Google Play Store, App store and via the web.
Rdio, a popular name in the digital music streaming business, will offer its users access millions of tracks for Rs. 120 per month. The app also offers free access through Internet Radio.

"At Rdio, we're focused on creating the world's best music experience built around the listener. India is the fastest growing Internet market in the world with one of the most vibrant cultures for music. We have built a strong local organisation here, which is now our largest office and team outside the US. Our objective is to raise the bar for the digital music experience in India and provide the most robust offering of music from around the world, all tuned to each individual listener," stated Anthony Bay, CEO of Rdio during the launch.
Rdio's India expansion really began in March last year, when the company acquired Dhingana, an India-based music streaming app.
"Over the past seven years, my brother and I have dedicated our lives to bringing millions of users the diverse and wonderful music of India. Last year Rdio acquired Dhingana and we set out to marry our Indian expertise and experience with the best global music platform. We are proud now to introduce Rdio to India, a world class product that delivers a global music service with a localised user experience for music fans in India and abroad," added Snehal Shinde, VP of Emerging Markets at Rdio.
Streaming music services are mostly popular in the US, among other western countries. Spotify, the most popular music streaming app, has more than 20 active million users. It's available free on mobile, tablet and computer but comes with adverts. Spotify is available in 58 markets around the world but in India.
