Spotify Audiobooks Coming to India on November 12: Price, Plans and Features Explained
Spotify is bringing audiobooks to India on November 12, 2026, giving users another way to consume books within the same app used for music and podcasts. The launch is part of Spotify's global audiobook expansion, with the service set to reach more than 180 markets by the end of 2026.
Spotify announced the expansion on October 7. Its audiobook catalogue will include more than 350,000 titles across over 120 languages, significantly expanding access beyond the 22 markets where the service was previously available.

Spotify Audiobooks India: Plans and Pricing
In India, Spotify will offer audiobooks through Audiobooks+, an add-on available to existing Spotify Premium subscribers. The plan will provide 15 hours of audiobook listening per month.
Spotify has not yet revealed the Audiobooks+ price in India. The company says pricing will be announced closer to launch and will be tailored to local listening behaviour.
Users on both Free and Premium plans will also be able to purchase individual audiobooks. This gives Spotify two options: a monthly listening plan for regular audiobook users and one-time purchases for those interested in specific titles.
Unlike some international markets, Spotify's standard Premium plan in India will not include a monthly audiobook allowance at launch.
Why Spotify Audiobooks Matter in India
India is a major market for Spotify, with a large monthly active user base but relatively lower Premium penetration. Audiobooks could give the company another way to monetise its existing audience.
Spotify says Audiobooks+ has crossed one million subscribers globally and generates more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue.
The success of the service in India could depend heavily on pricing, catalogue size and regional-language content. Popular categories could include fiction, business, self-help, mythology, children's books and educational content.
Spotify vs Audible in India
Spotify will compete with established audiobook platforms such as Amazon-owned Audible. However, Spotify's key advantage is that audiobooks will be integrated directly into an app already used by millions of people for music and podcasts.
The company also plans to use listening behaviour to recommend audiobooks alongside music and podcasts. Spotify says it works with nearly 300 publishers globally, while authors and publishers can upload titles through Spotify for Authors.
This could also create a new distribution channel for Indian and regional-language authors.
Spotify Page Match Feature
Spotify is also expanding its Page Match feature, which connects physical books, e-readers and audiobooks. Users can scan a book's ISBN barcode and use page numbers to find the corresponding position in the audiobook.
Page Match currently supports more than 30 languages and could be particularly useful for readers who switch between physical books and audio during commutes or other activities.
With Spotify audiobooks launching in India on November 12, the company's next challenge will be converting its large Indian audience into paying audiobook listeners. The Audiobooks+ price, local-language catalogue and recommendation experience will likely play a major role.
