MWC 2013: Samsung Announces Knox Secure Enterprise Solution
The trend of employees bringing their own devices to work environments is becoming popular, especially in the IT companies. While this offers a fare share of advantages and comforts, but it also brings along a variety of security issues. With MWC 2013 kick-starting today, news about new devices and products are coming in bundles. Consequently, Samsung has announced it's new security system called Knox for Android-based smartphones.
As mentioned in the company's press release, Samsung Knox is an end-to-end secure solution that provides security hardening from the hardware through to the application layer.
Simon Stanford, vice president of IM division at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said "BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) has, naturally, introduced a variety of security issues to the enterprise, but the fact remains that businesses embracing this strategy are enjoying significant advantages over competitors, as well as a the benefits that come with a happy workforce."
The system allows admins to isolate employee's personal data from the work as as it operates in a application layer level. This separation, helps prevent the threat of data leakage or virus based attacks.
Knox, incorporates Security Enhanced (SE) Android developed by NSA (National Security Agency) along with integrity management services in both hardware and the Android framework. The Knox container offers a variety of enterprise applications, including email, browser, contacts, calendars, file sharing, collaboration, CRM and business intelligence applications, in a secure environment. Accessing the container is as easy as tapping an icon on the home screen.
Knox can automatically integrate existing Android apps into enterprise ecosystem without the need to change the application source code. According to the company Knox will be available on selected Samsung Galaxy devices in the UK by Q3 of this year.
