Twitter Could Introduce Bing Translation Service For Android

By Prarthito

Twitter could have something influential cooking under its roof. And while we are yet to find out exactly what the company plans with its social networking service, initial reports are claiming that Twitter is planning on introducing the Bing Translation service for Android-based devices.

The brand new feature was first spotted by blogger, Arvid Bux, who also went on to post a screenshot of the new features. The screenshot showed the tweet "translated from Dutch by Bing". Bux also revealed that the translated tweet was only visible when that single tweet was opened.

"The translation appeared only when a single tweet was opened, Bux said, a behavior that matches Twitter for the Web and Microsoft's Windows Phone mobile OS," CNET wrote. "The feature appears to be unusual, though, indicating that it's likely one of Twitter's experiments."

"It's rare for a day to go by when we're not releasing at least one experiment...You may see some features that your friend doesn't see, or vice versa," Twitter said back in December about its experiment program.

Apparently, Twitter's experiment program lets its servers offer different content to the same mobile apps. So it may not be that big a surprise to see translation feature heading over to Twitter's iPhone app.

If you know correctly, Twitter already uses Microsoft's Bing translation service to transform tweets on its website and its Windows Phone application.
