WhatsApp Will Soon Let Users Set a Password for Their Accounts: Report
WhatsApp, the Meta-owned instant messaging app, is reportedly working on a new feature that will soon allow users to secure their accounts with a password.
According to the latest report by Wabetainfo, WhatsApp is adding an extra layer of security to its registration process by introducing an account password. It is worth noting that the upcoming feature won't replace current verification methods.

How the WhatsApp account password will work
The WhatsApp account password will be an alphanumeric string that users will be able to choose to set from app settings. As per the shared screenshots by Wabetainfo, the password must be 6 to 20 characters long and include at least one letter and one number. WhatsApp will also allow users to update or remove their password at any time. Even setting an account password will be optional.
The app will ask for a password after entering a 6-digit verification code during login. For instance, if you set up an account password but not two-step verification, the messaging app will ask you to enter your account password. If you also set up two-step verification, then you will first need to enter the 2FA code and then enter your account password.
WhatsApp Password basically adds an extra layer of protection beyond the 6-digit verification code, which will make it even more difficult for hackers to bypass authentication.
This feature is currently under development and is expected to roll out in the future. Once released, it is expected to sit alongside two-step verification and the 6-digit code. Together, these security layers are intended to lower the risk of account hijacking for regular users.
