Anthropic has added a new Claude visualisation feature that lets the AI draw charts, diagrams, and other visuals directly inside chat replies. These changing graphics appear within the ongoing conversation and are meant to make complex ideas easier to follow, similar to the interactive learning tools OpenAI recently introduced in ChatGPT.

The Claude visualisation feature is switched on for all existing Claude users, according to Anthropic. The company says Claude itself decides when a graphic might help, though people can still ask for visuals whenever needed. The tool is aimed at subjects that often feel abstract, including maths, science, and finance concepts.

With the Claude visualisation feature, responses can now include interactive elements rather than only text. For example, when someone asks Claude to explain compound interest, the system can create a curve that shows how savings grow over time. Users can then adjust values and see how the line reacts as conditions change.

Another example involves chemistry lessons. If a user asks about the periodic table, Claude can now build a visual layout instead of listing elements in text. People can click individual elements to bring up further details, which helps when revising properties or comparing groups. Anthropic says these graphics may refresh or even vanish as the chat continues.

Anthropic stresses that images made through the Claude visualisation feature are temporary and linked to the flow of talk. That separates them from Claude’s existing “artifacts”. Artifacts behave more like stable files or tools that Claude creates. Users can keep, download, or share these artifacts, which stay available beyond one conversation.

The company has been refining how Claude structures information across many tasks, and the Claude visualisation feature follows earlier layout updates. Earlier in 2024, Claude began presenting certain topics in special formats. Recipes, for instance, now appear with clear ingredient lists and stepwise cooking directions, making them easier to follow on phones and laptops.

People can steer the Claude visualisation feature with simple prompts. Anthropic says users may type phrases such as “draw this as a diagram” when they want a picture. They can also request trends using wording like “visualise how this might change over time” to see shifting patterns or timelines for a subject.

Once a chart or diagram appears, it does not stay fixed. Users can ask Claude to tweak labels, change ranges, add more data, or explore other angles. During early testing, Anthropic even thanked participants with a short survey message after demonstrations, showing that feedback is influencing how these visual tools develop inside Claude.

The Claude visualisation feature arrives as large AI models face growing pressure to present information more clearly. Anthropic’s move, coming soon after OpenAI’s similar ChatGPT update for maths and science, underlines how visual aids are becoming standard across chatbots.
