Apple’s Next Siri May Arrive as a ChatGPT-Style Assistant Built Into iOS

Apple has been talking up its AI ambitions for a while now, but Siri has largely stayed the same. That may finally change. According to a new report from Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing a major Siri overhaul that could transform the assistant into a full conversational AI chatbot built directly into the iPhone, iPad, and Mac experience.

Internally, the new version of Siri is said to be codenamed “Campos.” The goal isn’t just incremental improvement. Apple is reportedly aiming to replace Siri’s current interface with something that feels closer to a modern chatbot, where users can type or speak naturally and carry on a back-and-forth conversation.

A Chat-Style Siri Built Around Google’s AI Models

At the center of this upgrade is a fine-tuned version of Google’s Gemini AI. Apple and Google announced a multiyear partnership earlier this year, and this new Siri appears to be one of the biggest outcomes of that deal so far.

According to Gurman, Apple insiders see conversational interaction as the “central feature” of the new Siri. The experience is described as similar to the chat-style flow people already associate with tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini.

Instead of short commands and rigid responses, Siri would be able to handle follow-up questions and longer exchanges without resetting the conversation.

How Deeply Siri Could Be Embedded Across Apple Devices

One of the more important details is how tightly integrated this new Siri is expected to be. Rather than feeling like a separate app, the assistant would be baked across the operating system. Gurman reports that everything users can currently do through a chatbot app could be accessible directly through Siri, simply by pressing a button or invoking the assistant by voice.

If the timeline holds, Apple could unveil the new Siri at WWDC 2026 and roll it out publicly in September. The chatbot-style assistant is expected to be the primary new addition to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, with other updates reportedly focused more on stability than new features.
