Samsung Gives Bixby a Conversational Upgrade With One UI 8.5: Here's What's New
Samsung is rolling out a redesigned version of Bixby with One UI 8.5, and the focus this time is pretty clear. The company wants Bixby to behave less like a voice shortcut for settings and more like a conversational assistant that understands what you’re trying to do.

The update is arriving through a beta program and is positioned as a step toward making Galaxy phones easier to use without constantly digging through menus.
You Can Talk Normally, Not in Settings Language
One of the biggest changes is how Bixby handles device control. Instead of expecting users to remember exact feature names or menu paths, the assistant now works off intent.
So rather than saying a specific command, you can explain the problem in plain language. If you don’t want the screen to turn off while you’re still looking at it, you can just say that. Bixby figures out which setting needs to change and handles it for you.
The idea is to reduce friction, especially for people who don’t know where everything lives inside the settings app.
Fixing Problems Without Guesswork
Bixby is also being pushed as a troubleshooting helper. If you ask why something is happening on your phone, it looks at the current setup and points you to relevant options instead of giving generic advice.
For example, if your screen keeps lighting up in your pocket, Bixby can surface settings related to accidental touches and let you turn them on right away. It’s less about instructions and more about resolving the issue on the spot.
Built-In Web Search Without Leaving Bixby
Another addition is real-time web search inside Bixby itself. You can now ask general questions or look things up, and the results show up directly in the assistant’s interface.
If you’re searching for something like kid-friendly hotels in a specific city, Bixby pulls live results without pushing you into a browser. Samsung says this keeps the flow uninterrupted and makes Bixby useful beyond just phone controls.
Where And When It’s Available
The updated Bixby is part of One UI 8.5 and is rolling out in select markets, including India, Germany, Korea, Poland, the UK, and the U.S. Samsung says broader availability is planned, but hasn’t shared a specific timeline yet.
