Canva AI 2.0 Announced: Conversational Design, Memory, And New Workflows Added
Canva has introduced Canva AI 2.0, describing it as its biggest product update since the platform first launched in 2013. The update shifts Canva from a traditional design tool into something more conversational, where users can start with an idea and build complete projects in one place.

The new system is built around what Canva calls its “Design Model,” which is designed to understand how real-world designs are structured. The goal here is simple: instead of starting with templates, you start with a prompt and let the system build from there.
The feature is currently available as a research preview.
Designing Now Starts With A Conversation
One of the main changes is how creation begins. Instead of picking a template or opening a blank page, you can describe what you want, whether it’s a campaign idea, a presentation, or even a rough concept.
From there, Canva AI generates a design that already includes layout, hierarchy, and branding. Everything remains editable, so you can tweak elements without having to rebuild anything.

The system also keeps track of context, so you can refine ideas over multiple steps rather than starting over each time.
Core Features Behind Canva AI 2.0
Canva AI 2.0 is built around a few key capabilities that shape how it works:
- Conversational design allows users to guide the process through prompts and ongoing interaction
- Agentic editing lets the system take actions across a full design, rather than handling one element at a time
- Layered object editing means every part of a design stays editable instead of being flattened
- Memory system helps the platform learn preferences and improve over time
Together, these features aim to make the process feel more continuous, rather than switching between tools or steps.
New Workflows Expand What Canva Can Do
Alongside these core changes, Canva is adding six new workflows that extend how the platform is used:
- Connectors link Canva to tools like Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, Zoom, and more
- Scheduling allows tasks to run automatically in the background
- Web research gathers and structures information directly into designs
- Brand intelligence applies consistent fonts, colors, and styles across projects
- Sheets AI generates structured spreadsheets from prompts
- Canva Code 2.0 builds interactive experiences and supports HTML imports

These workflows are meant to reduce the need to switch between different apps during a project.
What This Means
With this update, Canva is trying to cover more of the creative process in one place. Instead of jumping between tools for writing, designing, planning, and editing, the platform is moving toward handling those steps within a single workflow.
