How to Use Group Chats

To initiate a group chat, click the people icon located at the top right of any chat window. Adding someone to an existing chat creates a new group chat copy, preserving the original conversation. You can invite up to twenty people by sharing a link, and anyone in the group can extend this invitation further.

Group chats operate similarly to regular ChatGPT conversations but allow multiple participants. Powered by GPT-5.1 Auto, these chats are distinct from private ones. Personal ChatGPT memory is not utilised here, ensuring no new memories are created from these interactions.

When joining or creating your first group chat, you'll need to set up a brief profile including your name, username, and photo. This helps everyone identify participants easily within the conversation.

Availability and Access

The rollout of group chats has begun for logged-in users on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans across Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan. These chats are accessible on both mobile and web platforms.

A dedicated section in the sidebar clearly labels group chats for easy navigation. This ensures that users can quickly access ongoing discussions without hassle.
