ChatGPT Pulse Explained: What It Is, How It Works, And Why It Matters

OpenAI has introduced a new feature called ChatGPT Pulse, aimed at making the chatbot more proactive. Instead of waiting for you to type out questions, Pulse delivers daily updates based on what you’ve been discussing, your feedback, and even data from connected apps. Think of it as a personalized briefing that lands on your phone once a day.

What ChatGPT Pulse Is

At its core, Pulse is a way for ChatGPT to do background research for you. Each night, it processes your chat history, memory, and feedback to prepare a set of visual cards you’ll see the next morning. These cards might include reminders tied to your conversations, follow-ups on past topics, or fresh ideas tailored to your interests.

For example, if you’ve been talking about meal planning, you might see a recipe idea pop up. If you’re planning a trip, Pulse could suggest hotels or restaurants. Connect Gmail or Google Calendar, and the feature gets even more contextual, surfacing things like sample meeting agendas, birthday reminders, or travel tips.

Right now, Pulse is only available to Pro users on the ChatGPT mobile app. Each update is designed for that day only, unless you choose to save it or follow up on it.

How To Use ChatGPT Pulse

Using Pulse is fairly simple. Open the ChatGPT app on your phone, and you’ll see a “Today’s Pulse” section with your personalized cards. You can scan them quickly, expand for details, or ask follow-up questions.

You also have the option to curate what Pulse brings you. Tap “curate” and request topics you want to see in future editions — anything from local event roundups to progress updates on a skill you’re learning. You can give feedback with a thumbs up or thumbs down, and over time, Pulse adapts to your preferences.

If you’ve connected Gmail or Calendar, you’ll start to see suggestions tied to those services. These integrations are off by default, so you’ll need to enable them in settings if you want Pulse to include that extra context.

Why It Matters

The bigger shift here is that ChatGPT is moving beyond being reactive. With Pulse, the assistant is starting to anticipate what you might need next, offering updates before you even ask. It’s still a preview and may miss the mark sometimes, but OpenAI sees it as the first step toward an AI that helps you progress in the background.
