Elon Musk Calls Out Apple for Snubbing Grok Despite More Than 50 Million Downloads and 4.9 App Store Rating
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has escalated his battle with Apple and OpenAI. A day after filing a lawsuit accusing the two of anticompetitive practices in artificial intelligence, Musk today posted on X about his chatbot Grok, pointing to its popularity and high ratings while questioning why Apple does not feature it in the App Store.

Musk’s Tweet on Grok
In his post, Musk shared a tweet of Grok’s App Store listing, which shows more than 50 million downloads and over a million reviews averaging 4.9 stars. He added:
“A million reviews with 4.9 average for @Grok and still Apple refuses to mention Grok on any lists.”
The tweet is already drawing significant attention online, reinforcing Musk’s broader complaint that Apple is giving OpenAI’s ChatGPT an unfair advantage.
Connection to the Lawsuit
Yesterday, Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI and X Corp. filed a lawsuit in U.S. federal court in Texas, accusing Apple and OpenAI of conspiring to shut out rivals in the AI sector. The lawsuit claims Apple’s integration of ChatGPT into iPhones, iPads, and Macs locks users into one AI option while sidelining competitors like Grok.
The filing also alleged that Apple manipulates App Store visibility to favor OpenAI. On August 24, ChatGPT was reportedly the only chatbot featured in Apple’s “Must-Have Apps” section. Musk’s tweet today highlights Grok’s strong adoption numbers to argue that visibility is not based on popularity or ratings but on preferential treatment.

Responses From Apple and OpenAI
Apple has not yet commented on either the lawsuit or Musk’s latest post. OpenAI, however, has already dismissed the legal action as part of Musk’s “ongoing pattern of harassment.” Musk also has a separate lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, challenging the company’s shift from a non-profit to a for-profit structure.
