Google Enhances Gemini AI Chatbot With Personalised Responses And Temporary Chats For Android Users

Google has introduced two new features for its AI chatbot, Gemini, specifically for the Android app. These enhancements include personalised responses and Temporary Chats. Personalised responses enable the AI to tailor replies by referencing past conversations, while Temporary Chats ensure privacy by not storing user data on Google's servers or using it for AI training.

Temporary Chats: A Focus on Privacy

The Temporary Chats feature in Gemini allows users to engage in private discussions without the data being stored or used by Google. This feature is similar to one offered by OpenAI's ChatGPT. Conversations are temporarily held on Google's AI servers for up to 72 hours to process feedback before being deleted. This ensures that sensitive topics remain confidential.

In a blog post, Google announced these updates but did not specify if they would be available on the web interface. The privacy-focused Temporary Chats feature is expected to be accessible to all users in the coming weeks. It provides an option where neither Gemini nor Google retains information from the conversation.

Personalised Responses: Tailoring Conversations

Gemini's personalised responses allow the chatbot to recall details from previous interactions, enhancing its ability to provide relevant replies. This feature is akin to Anthropic's recent update and extends Gemini's Memory capability, allowing it to remember user-specific details. Users can also query the chatbot about past conversations.

An example provided by Google illustrates how this works: If you've previously discussed comic book characters with Gemini, it might suggest a birthday party theme based on your favourite character when asked for unique ideas. This feature is currently exclusive to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and unavailable in certain regions like Europe and the UK.

Managing Personalised Features

Once available, personalised responses will be enabled by default but can be turned off through the app's settings under 'Personal context.' Users can manage or delete their chat history via Gemini Apps Activity if desired. Google plans to expand this feature to more models and regions soon.

These updates reflect Google's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience while prioritising privacy and personalisation in its AI offerings. By introducing these features, Google aims to make interactions with Gemini more intuitive and secure for users worldwide.
