Google Integrates Gemini 3 Into Chrome, Adds AI Side Panel, Auto Browse, and More

Google has integrated Gemini 3 within Chrome on Windows, MacOS and Chromebook Plus, adding new AI tools that sit directly inside the browser. The update is designed to support multitasking, handle longer online workflows and assist with web tasks more independently.

Instead of switching between many tabs or apps, users can now interact with Gemini in a side panel that stays visible across browsing. This keeps the main page focused on core work, while the panel helps with research, drafting, planning or checking details in parallel.

New side panel and creative tools in Gemini in Chrome

Chrome now gets a side panel for Gemini, which acts as a constant on-screen helper during browsing. It lets people run a separate task, like summarising an article or comparing options, while their primary tab remains unchanged. This aims to cut disruption and save time.

Google is also adding Nano Banana directly into Chrome, bringing simple image editing directly into the browser. Users type a short prompt in the side panel to describe changes they want. Chrome then modifies images from the page, without extra downloads, uploads or extra tabs.

Connected Apps, auto browse and more

Gemini now connects with apps such as Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Shopping and Google Flights. These integrations can be switched on from the Connected Apps section in Gemini Settings, allowing the assistant to use information from different Google services to help finish tasks.

Chrome’s familiar autofill had so far handled basics like addresses and card details. Google says Chrome is now moving to more complex “agentic” actions, such as managing layered work tasks or travel planning. For AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., a new Chrome auto browse feature carries out multi-step chores automatically.

Auto browse can, for example, research hotel and flight options across several dates, then highlight cheaper periods for travel. In the coming months, Google plans to add Personal Intelligence to Chrome, and the browser will also support the Universal Commerce Protocol, created with partners including Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair and Target, so AI agents can complete commerce actions more smoothly.
