Google Just Confirmed a Massive Siri Upgrade with Gemini AI

Google has confirmed that Gemini will power a more personalised version of Siri, set to launch by Apple in 2026. Speaking at Google Cloud Next 2026 in Las Vegas, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said Google Cloud will play a central role in Apple's upcoming Apple Intelligence features.

Google Cloud and Apple Partnership Explained

Kurian described Google Cloud as Apple's "preferred cloud provider," noting that both companies are closely aligned on cloud infrastructure for AI. Apple has reportedly explored hosting dedicated servers in Google data centres to handle increased demand once the upgraded Siri rolls out globally. This highlights how critical scalable cloud infrastructure will be for delivering real-time, personalised AI experiences.

The partnership focuses on building Apple Foundation Models using Gemini technology. These models will power next-generation Apple Intelligence features, including a significantly improved Siri capable of delivering more contextual, user-specific responses. Kurian added that the collaboration is part of Google's broader strategy to expand Gemini's reach across major consumer platforms.

Apple continues to target a 2026 release window for the upgraded Siri. The company initially delayed its advanced assistant plans in 2025, citing development complexity, and later reaffirmed that the new Siri would arrive before the end of 2026. Reports suggest Apple originally aimed for an earlier launch but faced accuracy challenges, forcing internal adjustments while keeping the public timeline unchanged.

Developers are expected to get an early preview through iOS 27, which is likely to be unveiled at Worldwide Developers Conference 2026 starting on 8 June.
