Gujarat and Meta Want to Bring AI-Based Government Services to WhatsApp
Meta and the Government of Gujarat have announced a new partnership focused on AI-powered governance, digital accessibility, and citizen services.
The biggest takeaway here is a new WhatsApp-based chatbot under Gujarat’s “Sugam Digital” initiative. Instead of jumping across websites or physically visiting offices for smaller tasks, citizens will reportedly be able to access government services directly through WhatsApp.

The WhatsApp Chatbot Seems To Be The Main Focus
The chatbot will support both Gujarati and English and is expected to handle around 20 government-related services through a dedicated WhatsApp number.
That includes things like income certificates, caste certificates, EWS certificates, ration card updates, affidavits, grievance support, and revenue records.
Meta and the Gujarat government also plan to add voice support, which could help people in rural areas or users who aren’t comfortable typing long requests on smartphones.
The larger idea seems pretty straightforward: reduce paperwork, reduce physical visits, and make basic services easier to access from anywhere.
If implemented properly, this could actually end up being useful instead of becoming another underused government portal.
Meta’s AI Glasses Are Also Part Of The Plan
Another interesting part of the partnership involves Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
The two sides are exploring a pilot program where the AI-powered glasses could help visually impaired citizens with accessibility and navigation support.

There aren’t many technical details yet, so it’s still very early. But it’s one of the first times Meta’s wearable AI products are being discussed in a public infrastructure context in India.
AI Training For Businesses And Creators Is Included Too
Meta also says the partnership will focus on AI skill development for creators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses across Gujarat.
The idea is to help local SMBs use AI-powered tools for customer engagement, digital marketing, and online growth.
That lines up with how Meta has been positioning AI recently, especially around helping businesses automate communication and online operations.
This Partnership Will Run For Two Years
The collaboration between Meta and the Gujarat government is expected to continue over the next two years.
Right now, the WhatsApp chatbot appears to be the first feature heading toward rollout, while the AI glasses and larger infrastructure initiatives are still being explored.
