How To Import Your Chat History And Memories From Other AI Chatbots Into Gemini: Step-By-Step Guide
Switching to a new AI assistant usually means starting from scratch. That’s exactly what Gemini is trying to fix with its new import tools.

If you’re planning to try Gemini but don’t want to lose your past conversations or preferences, here’s how you can bring everything over and pick up where you left off.
How To Import Your Memories Into Gemini
Gemini now lets you carry over your personal context from other AI apps. This includes things like your interests, preferences, or details you’ve shared before.

Here’s how the process works:
- Open Gemini and go to the Settings section.
- Look for the new import option and select it.
- Copy the prompt provided by Gemini.
- Paste this prompt into your current AI app.
- Let the app generate a summary of your preferences and personal context.
- Copy that generated summary.
- Go back to Gemini and paste the summary there.
- Gemini will analyze and save this information to your memory.
Once done, Gemini will start using this context in future conversations, so you don’t have to repeat yourself.
How To Import Your Full Chat History
If you want more than just key details, Gemini also supports full chat history import.
- Export your chat history from your current AI provider as a ZIP file.
- Open Gemini and go to the Settings section.
- Find the chat history import option.
- Upload the ZIP file.
- Wait for Gemini to process the data.
After this, your past conversations will be available inside Gemini. You can search through them or continue previous threads.
What Changes After Importing
Once both memory and chat history are imported, Gemini starts treating your past interactions as part of its broader “memory.”
This means your conversations can build on earlier context instead of feeling disconnected every time you start a new chat. Google is also renaming the “past chats” section to “memory,” reflecting this shift.
Where To Find These Features
Both memory import and chat history import are rolling out through the Gemini app’s Settings page. If you don’t see them yet, they may not have reached your account.
