How to Use Claude AI in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides: Step-by-Step Guide

Anthropic's Claude AI assistant is now available inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides through a Google Workspace integration. The feature allows users to write and edit documents, create spreadsheet formulas, analyse data and build presentations without switching to a separate AI chatbot.

The integration is currently available in public beta for paid Claude subscribers. Users need a Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan to access it, while availability for business accounts may also depend on administrator permissions.

How to Use Claude AI in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

If you want to try Claude inside Google's productivity apps, here's how to install the integration and use its features.

How to Install Claude in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

Users can add Claude to their Google Workspace account through the Google Workspace Marketplace. Follow these steps to get started.

  1. Open the Google Workspace Marketplace using your Google Account.
  2. Search for the official Claude add-on.
  3. Select the add-on and click Install.
  4. Complete the required permissions and account setup prompts.
  5. Open a document in Google Docs, a spreadsheet in Google Sheets or a presentation in Google Slides.
  6. Click Extensions in the top menu.
  7. Select Claude and click Open Claude.

Claude should then appear inside the supported Google app, allowing you to interact with the assistant while working on your file.

If you cannot install or access the add-on using a work or school account, your organisation may have restricted access. In that case, contact your Google Workspace administrator to check whether the integration is enabled for your account or group.

How to Use Claude in Google Docs

Claude can help users draft, rewrite and refine text directly within Google Docs. It is designed to assist with editing tasks while allowing users to review suggestions before applying changes.

Here's how you can use it:

  1. Open a document in Google Docs.
  2. Go to Extensions > Claude > Open Claude.
  3. Ask Claude to rewrite a paragraph, correct sentences or improve the overall readability of your content.
  4. You can also request heading changes, stylistic improvements or broader edits to the document.
  5. Review Claude's suggestions and accept or dismiss them as needed.

For example, you can ask Claude to make a business report more concise, improve the tone of an email or restructure a rough draft into a more readable article.

How to Use Claude in Google Sheets

Claude can assist with spreadsheet tasks, including creating formulas, generating charts, building pivot tables and organising data. It can also help clean or combine datasets, with Python-based data handling available where supported.

To use Claude in Google Sheets:

  1. Open the spreadsheet you want to work on.
  2. Select Extensions > Claude > Open Claude.
  3. Describe the task you want to complete, such as creating a formula or analysing a dataset.
  4. Ask Claude to help generate formulas, charts, pivot tables or additional spreadsheet tabs.
  5. Review the results and verify the formulas and data before using them.

For instance, you could ask Claude to create a formula that calculates monthly sales growth, organise a sales tracker or suggest a chart to compare performance across different periods.

As with other AI-generated spreadsheet outputs, check formulas and calculations carefully before relying on them for business or financial decisions.

How to Use Claude in Google Slides

Claude can help create slides based on the style of an existing presentation and review decks for common layout issues. This can be useful when preparing business presentations, project updates or product pitches.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. Select Extensions > Claude > Open Claude.
  3. Describe the presentation task you want Claude to perform.
  4. Ask it to generate new slides that match the style of your existing deck.
  5. Use Claude to check for issues such as overlapping text, cut-off content and difficult-to-read layouts.
  6. Review the generated slides and make any necessary changes before sharing the presentation.

The feature can help users build an initial presentation more quickly, although the final slides should still be checked for accuracy, readability and visual consistency.

What to Do If Claude Does Not Appear in Google Workspace

If Claude is missing from the Extensions menu or you cannot install the integration, check whether you are signed in to the correct Google Account and have an eligible paid Claude subscription.

For managed workplace accounts, the Google Workspace administrator may need to enable the add-on for the organisation or selected user groups. Claude Team and Enterprise customers may also need their primary owner to enable the relevant connectors before users can access the integration.

If the feature remains unavailable, check the integration's current availability and account requirements before trying again.

Is Claude in Google Workspace Worth Using?

Claude's Google Workspace integration brings AI assistance closer to everyday productivity tasks. Users can refine documents, work with spreadsheet data and create presentations without repeatedly copying content into a separate chatbot.

However, AI-generated text, formulas, charts and slides should be treated as drafts that require review. Users working with confidential business information should also follow their organisation's data-handling policies.

For eligible subscribers, the integration offers a convenient way to incorporate Claude into existing Google Workspace workflows, although access remains subject to the beta's availability and account permissions.
