Google Gemini Now Has Notebooks: Here’s How to Organize Your Chats and Files in One Place

If you’ve been using Gemini for anything beyond quick questions, you’ve probably run into the same issue. Conversations pile up, files sit in different places, and going back to find context isn’t always easy.

Google Gemini Now Has Notebooks — Here’s How You Can Use Them

Google is trying to fix that with a new feature called notebooks inside the Gemini app. The idea is simple. You get one place to store everything related to a topic, and Gemini uses that context to give you better answers.

Here’s how it works and how you can actually use it.

What Notebooks In Gemini Actually Do

Think of notebooks as a dedicated workspace inside Gemini.

You create one notebook for a topic, and then start adding things into it. That could be your chats, documents, PDFs, or anything else related to what you’re working on. Instead of treating each prompt separately, Gemini starts looking at everything inside that notebook as context.

So the more you organize inside it, the more useful the responses can get.

How To Create A Notebook In Gemini

Getting started is pretty straightforward.

Inside the Gemini app, you’ll see a “New notebook” option in the side panel. Tap or click on that, and you’ll get a fresh space to start organizing your work.

From there, you can:

  • Move your previous chats into the notebook
  • Upload documents or PDFs
  • Add files that you want Gemini to reference
  • Set custom instructions for that specific notebook

Once you’ve done that, everything sits in one place, and Gemini starts using it as context.

How To Use Notebooks For Better Responses

This is where it gets more useful.

Instead of starting from scratch every time, you can keep building inside the same notebook. Gemini combines your uploaded files, past chats, and its own tools and web search to respond.

For example, you could:

  • Add notes or study material and keep asking follow-up questions
  • Upload documents and ask Gemini to work based on those
  • Keep refining a project without repeating context every time

The key is that you’re not resetting the conversation anymore. You’re building on top of it.

How NotebookLM Fits Into This

Another important part of this feature is that it doesn’t stay limited to Gemini.

Notebooks sync with NotebookLM automatically. So anything you add in Gemini shows up there as well, and vice versa.

That means you can switch between both apps depending on what you want to do, without losing your data or context. You can start something in Gemini and continue working on it in NotebookLM using its features.

Who Can Use It Right Now

The notebooks feature is rolling out first on the Gemini web app.

For now, it’s available to users with Google AI Ultra, Pro, and Plus subscriptions. Google says it plans to expand access to mobile devices, more regions, and free users in the coming weeks.
