India AI Impact Summit 2026: Health Minister Launches SAHI & BODH Platforms to Strengthen Health AI Ecosystem
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has announced two national health AI frameworks, SAHI and BODH, at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Bharat Mandapam. The initiatives are designed to regulate, test and guide artificial intelligence tools used in healthcare across India.
Nadda explained that health AI must remain ethical, transparent and accountable, with patient safety central to every deployment. The minister stressed that AI systems should assist doctors and frontline workers, not replace human judgement, and must work within strong privacy and data protection safeguards.

Health AI Development
The Secure AI for Health Initiative, or SAHI, is framed as a nationwide roadmap for health AI development. It covers hospitals, public health programmes, pharmaceutical research units and digital health platforms, providing a common reference for responsible use of algorithms in clinical and administrative settings.
Officials said SAHI sets out governance norms, data management rules, validation benchmarks and ongoing monitoring processes. These elements are expected to help hospitals, regulators and developers align on safety, fairness and reliability before health AI systems influence diagnosis, treatment, or public health decisions.
Testing Through BODH Open Data Platform
Launched alongside SAHI, BODH stands for Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI. The platform has been created by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur with the National Health Authority, and is meant to test AI models using anonymised real-world health records.
Authorities noted that BODH will check each health AI system for accuracy, bias, reliability and adaptability across diverse populations. The platform is designed so that all datasets remain anonymised, with strict privacy protection, before any model is cleared for wider deployment in clinical environments.
Key differences between the two health AI initiatives are outlined below.
| Initiative | Full Form | Primary Focus | Key Partners |
|---|---|---|---|
| SAHI | Secure AI for Health Initiative | Roadmap, governance and oversight for health AI | Union Health Ministry |
| BODH | Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI | Testing AI models on anonymised health data | IIT Kanpur, National Health Authority |
Integration with Digital India and Data Systems
Nadda linked the growth of health AI to the broader Digital India programme, describing it as the base for secure digital infrastructure. The minister also highlighted the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which has created standards for an interoperable digital health ecosystem across public and private providers.
According to Nadda, AI in healthcare cannot work alone and depends on high-quality data systems. The minister emphasised consent-based frameworks for data use, arguing that health AI can function responsibly only when privacy protections and clear permissions are built into every workflow.
Potential in Pharma Research and Clinical Trials
The minister underlined the scope of health AI in pharmaceutical research and clinical trials in India. Nadda said advanced algorithms could shorten drug discovery timelines, make trials more precise, and reduce overall costs, which may support wider access to affordable treatment options.
Beyond policy measures, the report also listed details about Ashish Singh, Chief Copy Editor at Digit since 2020. Ashish Singh has worked with Times Internet and Jagran English, writes on technology, follows gadgets closely, and often tests in-car tech during long road trips.
Together, SAHI and BODH are meant to create a structured evaluation and regulatory ecosystem for health AI in India. With Digital India systems, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission infrastructure, and strict privacy norms, the initiatives aim to guide AI development while keeping patient welfare at the centre.
