NVIDIA and Intel Announce $5 Billion Partnership to Build AI and PC Chips

NVIDIA and Intel are teaming up in a deal that could reshape how AI infrastructure and personal computing hardware are built. The two companies announced on September 18 that they’ll work together on custom CPUs and GPUs, while NVIDIA will also invest $5 billion in Intel stock.

NVIDIA & Intel Announce $5 Billion Partnership to Build AI & PC Chips

A Push Into AI Infrastructure

At the core of the partnership is a plan for Intel to design and manufacture x86 CPUs specifically for NVIDIA. These custom chips will be integrated into NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure platforms, targeting the growing demand in hyperscale and enterprise data centers.

The companies say the collaboration will lean on NVIDIA’s NVLink interconnect to bridge their architectures, effectively combining NVIDIA’s accelerated computing stack with Intel’s CPU technologies and the broader x86 ecosystem.

Bringing NVIDIA GPUs to PCs

The agreement also extends into personal computing. Intel will build x86 system-on-chips (SoCs) that integrate NVIDIA RTX GPU chiplets. These SoCs are intended to power PCs that need a balance of strong CPU performance and dedicated graphics horsepower — a move that could influence how gaming laptops and creator-focused desktops are designed in the coming years.

NVIDIA’s $5 Billion Bet

NVIDIA isn’t just handing over IP. The company is also putting money directly into Intel by investing $5 billion in common stock, priced at $23.28 per share. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals, but it signals NVIDIA’s confidence in Intel’s role as both a partner and a manufacturer at a time when chip production capacity is in high demand.

Leadership Voices

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang described the tie-up as a way to “tightly couple NVIDIA’s AI and accelerated computing stack with Intel’s CPUs and the vast x86 ecosystem.” He framed it as part of a larger shift where AI is “reinventing every layer of the computing stack.”

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan highlighted Intel’s long-standing position in computing and suggested this collaboration blends Intel’s strengths in manufacturing and process technology with NVIDIA’s leadership in AI acceleration.
