OpenAI Offers One-Month Free Trial of ChatGPT Plus in India: Here’s How to Get It
OpenAI is running a limited-time promotion that gives users a one-month free trial of ChatGPT Plus. The offer is currently available in India.

This might sound routine in the subscription world, but it’s a first for OpenAI’s main ChatGPT Plus plan. Until now, free access and giveaways have been typically tied to smaller or region-specific plans, rather than the primary paid tier.
How the Offer Is Showing Up for Users
The free trial was first spotted by Tibor Blaho, Lead Engineer at AIRPM, who shared details on X. Since then, the offer has been verified by multiple users and publications in both India and the US.
That said, availability doesn’t seem universal yet. I can’t see the offer on my account. However, a member of the Gadgets360 team has already seen it live.
It’s worth checking your subscription page or settings to see if it appears for you.
Who Can Claim the Free Month and What to Watch Out For
The promotion isn’t limited to brand-new users. Existing free users can access it, and even users on ChatGPT Go can upgrade to Plus for the 30-day trial period.
There is an important detail for Indian users who received ChatGPT Go free for a year during a promotion in November 2025. If they upgrade to Plus using this trial, they won’t be able to switch back to the free Go plan once the month ends.
Another thing to keep in mind is billing. Users need to add payment details before activating the free trial. If the subscription isn’t cancelled before the 30 days are up, the Plus plan will renew automatically and charge for the next month.
What ChatGPT Plus Adds Over the Free Version
ChatGPT Plus typically costs ₹1,999 per month in India. The paid tier offers higher usage limits and priority access to OpenAI’s latest models, which can make a difference if you rely on ChatGPT regularly.
Subscribers also get access to features like Sora-powered video generation, expanded memory for better context retention, and Codex tools designed to help with coding and development tasks.
For users who’ve mostly stayed on the free plan, the trial is a low-risk way to see whether those extras actually fit into their daily workflow.
Why OpenAI Might Be Testing This Now
OpenAI has been steadily reshaping how ChatGPT is positioned, especially as it prepares users for upcoming changes like ads and newer AI-driven features. Offering a free Plus trial lowers the barrier for users who’ve been curious but hesitant to pay upfront.
It also gives OpenAI a clearer picture of how many free users convert once they’ve experienced the higher limits and additional tools for a full month.
