You No Longer Need an iPhone to Try Sora 2 — Here’s What’s New
OpenAI has rolled out two key updates for Sora 2, its AI video generation model, making it easier to access and more capable than before. The company’s post on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed the changes, just a few weeks after Sora 2 was first introduced.

Sora 2 Now Works on the Web
When OpenAI launched the Sora app for iOS in late September, it was available by invite only — and exclusively to iPhone users. That limited who could actually use the AI video model. With the latest update, Sora 2 can now be accessed directly through the Sora website, meaning users without iPhones can finally generate videos as well.
There’s still a catch, though: you’ll need an invite code to use Sora 2. Without it, the tool remains off-limits. For now, only ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers have broader access, and even they’re limited to the older version of Sora.
AI Videos Can Now Run Longer
The other major update is about video duration. Previously, Sora-generated clips were capped at 10 seconds. Now, users can create 15-second videos, while Pro users get up to 25 seconds per generation.
That might not sound like much, but for AI video models, longer runtime means more complex scene continuity and improved storytelling potential. OpenAI says these changes are possible because it’s allocating more computing power to handle the demand.
Storyboard Support for ChatGPT Pro Users
There’s also something new for users who access Sora 2 via ChatGPT Pro. The company has enabled a storyboard editor on the web, letting creators add reference images, adjust resolution and aspect ratio, and even tweak video duration directly in the interface.
The storyboard works like a lightweight video editor. You can set different text prompts for each frame, build transitions, or preview how the model interprets instructions — something closer to an early editing suite than a text box.
Sora’s Gradual Expansion
With these updates, OpenAI appears to be taking a gradual rollout approach, opening Sora 2 in stages while managing server load. Making it web-accessible is a big step toward a wider release — even if the invite restriction keeps it limited for now.
As the AI video race heats up, OpenAI is clearly positioning Sora as its next major platform beyond text and images, moving closer to real-time, multimodal creation.
