OPPO Shows New AI Features Coming To ColorOS At MWC 2026: 5 Things To Know
Artificial intelligence is becoming a bigger part of smartphones, and companies are now trying to move more of that processing directly onto the device. At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, OPPO and MediaTek shared some of the work they’ve been doing together in this area.

The companies used MediaTek’s “AI for Life” keynote to talk about new on-device AI features, future AI models designed for smartphones, and how they see AI evolving in mobile devices.
Here are five key things worth knowing from the announcement.
1. OPPO Is Doubling Down On On-Device AI
A big part of OPPO’s AI strategy focuses on running more AI tasks directly on the smartphone instead of the cloud.

The company says this approach can help reduce delays, keep data processing on the device, and allow features to work even when the internet connection isn’t strong. According to OPPO Research Institute President Jason Liao, on-device computing is becoming a core part of how the company wants AI to work on its phones.
2. AI Translate Can Run Without The Cloud
One of the features demonstrated was on-device AI Translate, which performs multilingual translation directly on the device.
OPPO says the system delivers around 15% better accuracy compared to conventional approaches, and it can continue working even when the phone is offline or dealing with a weak network signal.
The feature is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 platform.
3. AI Portrait Glow Aims To Fix Difficult Lighting
Another feature shown at the event is called AI Portrait Glow.
It focuses on improving portrait photos taken in challenging lighting conditions. The system analyzes the lighting in a scene and reconstructs the image to improve the overall result while keeping the picture looking natural.
Like AI Translate, this feature runs directly on the phone rather than depending on cloud processing.
4. A New AI Model Called Omni Was Previewed
OPPO and MediaTek also introduced a technology preview called Omni, which they describe as an on-device full-modal AI model.

The idea behind Omni is that it can understand multiple types of input, such as voice, video, and text, allowing the smartphone to interpret scenes and respond to questions directly on the device.
This kind of capability could allow phones to understand better what users are looking at and respond in real time.
5. Some Of These Features Are Coming To OPPO Phones
The companies said that some of the AI features demonstrated at MWC will eventually reach consumer devices.

For example, AI Translate and AI Portrait Glow are planned to arrive on the OPPO Find X9 series through a future ColorOS 16 update.
OPPO also said the Find X9 series will support Android Quick Share, which will allow file transfers between OPPO phones and devices running iOS, iPadOS, and macOS without installing third-party apps. The feature is scheduled to roll out via a software update starting in March.
