Say Goodbye to Guesswork! Google’s AI Lets You ‘Wear’ Shoes Before You Buy Them

Google is enhancing its AI-driven shopping tools, allowing users to virtually try on shoes. This feature, introduced earlier this year, lets shoppers visualise footwear from home. Initially, Google offered virtual clothing try-ons through Google Labs. By July, this feature became widely available, enabling users to experiment with clothing and accessories without leaving their homes.

Google's AI Shopping Tool Expands to Footwear

In a recent blog post on The Keyword, Google revealed that its AI-powered "try-on" feature now includes shoes. Users can preview how shoes look by uploading a full-length photo. Google's system then creates a realistic image of the shoes being worn. This tool functions similarly to the apparel try-on feature, making it easy for those familiar with it.

To use this feature, shoppers simply tap on any shoe listing in Google Search and select the Try It On button. They then upload their photo, and within moments, they see a digital representation of themselves wearing the chosen shoes. The generated image can be saved or shared for feedback.

Virtual Clothing Try-Ons Now Include Shoes

This development follows Google's earlier introduction of AI-driven virtual clothing try-ons about two months ago. Initially, the feature displayed garments on diverse body types using various models. With this upgrade, users can now visualise both apparel and footwear on a digital version of their own body, enhancing personalisation in online shopping.

In June, Google launched an experimental app called Doppl. This app uses AI to show how different outfits might look on users. Built on the same generative AI technology as Google's virtual try-on feature, Doppl now includes shoes for a more immersive styling experience. It helps shoppers refine their style and creates AI-generated videos showing how outfits move in real life.

Global Expansion of Virtual Try-On Tools

Google is also expanding its virtual try-on tools beyond the United States to countries like Australia, Canada, and Japan. This expansion aims to make online shopping more engaging and accessible worldwide by offering personalised experiences through advanced AI technology.

The integration of footwear into Google's virtual try-on tools marks a significant step forward in online retail innovation. By allowing users to visualise products on themselves before purchasing, Google enhances the convenience and appeal of online shopping.
