Samsung launches a new 16MP Plug & Play sensor
The new sensor will help other OEMs save a lot of time on testing the sensors.
Samsung has developed a new 16MP ISOCELL Plus and Play image solution. The new sensor is built to speed up the process for partner companies. Samsung is known for producing components for other OEMs' smartphones and other products.
Keeping that in mind, the new solution will reduce the time it takes for testing to occur since the optimization is done at the module-level instead of just on the sensor. This applies to the companies that use Samsung camera technology in their phones. The Korean company also claims that the solution will save up to four months of development.
This happens because the sensor module is pre-tuned to perform well with the array of components and lenses used by other companies. This also means that the solution can be used without having to re-optimize it.
The solution is based on a 1.0μm ISOCELL Slim 3P9 sensor. The sensor also acts as a 2.0μm sensor for selfie cameras. Moreover, the company claims that it features a new phase detection auto-focus with doubled autofocus agent density. It also features a new gyro-synchronizer to enable greater stability against angular movement.
Samsung has made the new solution available starting May 3. So partners can get their hands on the new sensor saving an ample amount of time on testing.
Besides, Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 has been certified by the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (CMIIT). The information is based on two model numbers associated with the listing - specifically, SM-N9500 and SM-N9508.
Both these model numbers are listed as mobile phones, with the first being approved on March 21, while the latter got approved on April 24. Also, both the handsets are likely the Chinese variants of the device. The listed frequency band also seem to indicate that the handset is intended for the Chinese market, although some international bands also appear to be supported. Lately, a lot of speculations have been doing rounds surrounding the device.
Samsung has been long reported to be working on developing an in-screen fingerprint sensor. There were a lot of reports about the Galaxy S9 featuring the new technology, but unfortunately, the company had to drop the idea due to technical constraints. Now a new report from The Korean Herald, Samsung will bring the new technology with its upcoming flagship Galaxy Note 9.
