Samsung finally reveals the science behind Galaxy S9's super slow-mo shots
That's how it's done.
Samsung brought the super slow-mo mode with its flagship Galaxy S9 and S9+ which is capable of capturing videos at a whopping 960 frames per second at 720p resolution. The biggest question everyone had was, how did Samsung manage to ramp up the numbers from 240fps on the S8 / S8+ to 960fps? The credit actually goes to the new triple-stacked camera module that Samsung used this time around.
The latest camera module comprises of a CMOS sensor with a readout circuit underneath that runs four times faster the previous generation circuit. On top of that, there's a dedicated DRAM chip that allows the users what company calls "buttery-smooth, Super Slow-mo videos." But the only thing is the low resolution, which might be increased with next year's flagship.
It should be noted that the same technology is also responsible for the enhanced low-light photography on the latest flagships. And we are certain that the technology will be borrowed by the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 as well.
Samsung also shared few diagrams that illustrate about the new technology.
The camera app also allows users to save the super slow-mo clip to be saved as a GIF, customized with a tune or even set as a wallpaper. The Galaxy S9+ also introduced a new feature dubbed Intelligent Scan that combines the Iris Scanner and the Face Unlock features seen on the Galaxy S8/S8+. But the company still doesn't use an external hardware for the feature.
As for the specifications, the Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inch Infinity display and the Galaxy S9+ has a larger 6.2-inch Infinity display. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The bigger variant offers 1440 x 2960 pixel at 529ppi. The screen renders deep black to conceal the iris sensor and gives a minimalist and uniform aesthetic. The smartphone uses the octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB/6GB of RAM.
The 128GB Galaxy S9 will be selling at a price of Rs 61,900, while the S9+ with 128GB will be available for Rs 68,900. To recall, the 64GB variant sells for Rs 57,900, while the 256GB holds a price tag of Rs 65,900. Talking of bigger sibling, the 64GB variant is priced at Rs 64,900, and the 256GB variant comes at Rs 72,900.
