Farewell Windows 7 and Windows 8: ‘End of Sale’ by Microsoft
Microsoft has finally put an end to sales of Windows 7 and Windows 8.
It's time to say a final 'Goodbye' to ever-popular Windows 7 and its successor Windows 8. Yes, Microsoft has put a final nail to the coffin of world's most popular desktop-PC operating system by confirming 'End of sales' on company's 'Life-cycle' page.
This means no Windows 7 licenses to computer makers, marking an end to an era of the seven-year-old OS.

What does 'End of Sale' mean?
As per Microsoft, End of sales refers to the date when a particular version of Windows is no longer shipped to retailers or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Some examples of OEMS are Dell and Toshiba-PC manufacturers who often preinstall Windows software.
Microsoft has also put a table on company's life-cycle page, which specifies the day- October 31, 2016 as End of sales for PCs with Windows preinstalled for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 8.1.

All eyes on Windows 10
The end of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 changes a lot for consumers and for Microsoft as whole. This move makes Windows 10 the only long-term choice for consumers and OEMs that sells laptops and PCs with pre-load Windows. The new Windows PC will come with Windows 10 and users will no longer have 'downgrade rights' to go back to previous versions.

Besides, this also puts Microsoft in soft spot, which now has to make sure that the one and only Windows 10 stays competitive and gets regular updates to support consumer's needs.
Windows 7 still Rules the World
While Microsoft has bid a final goodbye to Windows 7, it still remains the most popular operating system on the planet. As per a report shred by pcworld.com, the U.S. analytics vendor Net Applications has said that Windows 7 powers 48% of all personal computers in October, more than twice Windows 10's share.
Microsoft is well aware about the fact and will offer support for Windows 7 until January 2020. Post the date, users have to migrate to another operating system.
