Microsoft Removes ActiveX Support in Edge Browser
Microsoft has already announced its new web browser, Microsoft Edge, which will be introduced as a default browser for Windows 10. The new Microsoft Edge promises speedier browsing experience, and better features to rival currently popular web browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
The new browser will not use many of the features that were a part of Internet Explorer, including the support of ActiveX based plug-ins. Microsoft confirms that the ActiveX will not be supporting the Edge browser, which means the browser will not support the company's own Silverlight web-based media player.

"Support for ActiveX has been discontinued in Microsoft Edge, and that includes removing support for Silverlight. The reasons for this have been discussed in previous blogs and include the emergence of viable and secure media solutions based on HTML5 extensions." Microsoft said in a blog post.
Microsoft explains that the ActiveX support is no longer required due to the capabilities of the HTML5 language. Other technologies and APIs that will not be supported by the Edge include of Browser Helper Objects, Document modes, Vector Markup Language and VBScript.

Edge will be the default browser for Windows 10 operating system, but the company will continue to keep the Internet Explorer to support certain website that are dependent on the browser's features.
