Microsoft Windows 7 operating system will soon stop getting security and technical updates, the company declared. In an announcement, Microsoft India's group director, Farhana Haque, said that people using Windows 7 will likely fall back in their work efficiency as there won't be updates anymore.

Microsoft Windows 7 Updates To Stop Soon

Microsoft To End Support For Windows 7

Microsoft is urging users to switch to the latest version of Windows 10 OS for their PC, laptop or tablets. Those using Windows 7 will face frequent security lapses, the company cautions. The Windows 7 End of Support extends to non-security hotfixes, no more free or paid assisted support or new security updates. Users will also not get online technical content updates either.

Once Microsoft Windows 7 End of Support rolls in, the lack of strategic PC refresh policy will result in bigger repercussions, in the long run, notes the group director. The general concern over app compatibility is one of the main reasons why business owners do not replace their PCs on time, she notes.

Microsoft India Report

Haque gave away some details from a study Microsoft India conducted with TechAisle, a global IT market research and analyst organization. According to the study, Indian SMBs (small and medium businesses) spend an average of Rs 93,500 to maintain a computer that is over four-years-old. Haque says the maintenance cost can easily replace the old PC with an updated one.

The study was conducted on 2,000 SMBs in the Asia Pacific region. The report states that nearly 25 percent of SMBs surveyed in South India have experienced a security breach. Moreover, 40 percent were using outdated PCs and 62 percent were using an older version of Windows. At the same time, the report showed that businesses that shifted to the latest model cut the maintenance cost by 84 percent.
