Sony to launch Google Assistant-powered smart display soon

Sony to bring smart functionality to a display soon.

|

Sony is expected to launch an alleged smart display in the second half of 2018, most likely in July or August, according to a rumor from a website called The Best Advices. What's more surprising is that the alleged device is leaked in an image that looks like a press render.

Sony to launch Google Assistant-powered smart display soon

If the rumor is to be believed, the smart display/ speaker will be manufactured in "collaboration with Google," which also indicates that the device will be powered by Google's virtual voice Assistant. The specifications and other details about the speaker are yet to be confirmed, yet the rumors suggest that the device will be launched in the market at a price of $220-$250, and will come with a full HD display which would be a higher resolution compared to the JBL Link View.

That being said, we still have no idea about the actual size of the screen, so it's hard to compare both products at the moment. The rumor also suggests that the display will also run on Android though no other information was provided in terms of features and functionality. The device is also said to sport a camera on the front panel which will come in handy for video chatting purposes. Sony has already launched a Google Assistant-powered smart speakers, so a smart display doesn't seem that far-fetched.

Earlier, it was reported that Sony is working on a smartphone with a bezel-less display with a 4K resolution. The report further suggests that the phone's design will be based on company's 'Ambient Flow' design which was recently mentioned by the company. The alleged smartphone is tipped to boast a 5.5-inch display with 4320 x 2180 pixel resolution with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's zippy Snapdragon 845 processor, just like the recently launched XZ2 series. The processor will be backed by 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

This isn't the first time Sony will be incorporating a 4k display with HDR support. The company earlier launched the Xperia XZ Premium which packs a 5.5-inch display. Sony is yet to drop any hints regarding the device but if the smartphone is under development, we can expect it to launch sometime in the second half of the year.
