Pixel 9a: Worth Picking Over Pixel 10a?

While the Pixel 10a comes as the successor to last year's Pixel 9a, it doesn't bring many major upgrades. The Pixel 9a is powered by the Tensor G4 chip - the same processor that also runs the new Pixel 10a.

However, there are some improvements in terms of display. Both models feature a 6.3-inch Actua OLED panel, but peak brightness increases to 3,000 nits on the Pixel 10a, compared to 2,700 nits on the Pixel 9a.

Additionally, the newer model comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, replacing Gorilla Glass 3 on the Pixel 9a. It is also claimed to survive drops from up to 1 metre and offer better scratch resistance.

In terms of cameras, the Pixel 9a has a 48MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP front camera, while the 10a gets the same primary camera but a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 13MP selfie camera. However, neither model includes a dedicated telephoto camera. However, the Pixel 10a gets new tools such as Camera Coach, Auto Best Take, and Add Me to enhance photography.

The Pixel 9a also supports seven years of OS updates, similar to the new model. Both phones pack a 5,100mAh battery. However, the newer model supports 30W wired and 10W wireless charging, while the Pixel 9a supports 23W wired and 7.5W wireless charging.

Overall, if you are already using the Pixel 9a, there isn't much reason to upgrade. For those planning to buy a new device, the next-gen model could be a better choice if you want the new imaging tools and improved durability. However, if you don't want to stretch your budget beyond Rs 40,000, the Pixel 9a remains a solid option with the discount.
