Honor X9b Display Faces Screen Burn-In Issue: Causes, Impact, and Prevention Tips
We often hear about green line issues on smartphone displays, but screen burn-in is relatively uncommon. Unlike typical display glitches, screen burn-in can leave faint but permanent ghost images on the screen that won't go away from the phone's display.
It can affect everyday usability and reduce the visual appeal of the display. Now, the Honor X9b has reportedly developed a screen burn-in problem. Here's what it means and what could happen next.

Honor X9b Display Reportedly Develops Screen Burn-In Issue
Tipster Sanju Choudhary (@saaaanjjjuuu) shared that his Honor X9b's display has developed a screen burn-in issue, which appears to be worsening each day. The affected portion of the display shows persistent image retention, impacting the overall user experience.
After visiting a nearby service centre, he was informed that since the device is out of warranty, repairs would be chargeable. He later contacted the service helpline, where he was advised to email the issue for further assistance. "I've already mailed them about the same - now let's see if they can resolve this. I hope they've improved their customer service," he added.
What Is Screen Burn on a Phone?
Despite the name, screen burn-in doesn't involve any actual burning. It refers to faint shadows or ghost images that won't go away from the phone's display.
Screen burn-in occurs when a static image is left on a screen for an extended period, causing certain pixels to degrade unevenly. This results in a permanent imprint of the image on the display. The issue is most common on OLED and Plasma screens.
How to Prevent Screen Burn-In?
First, you should understand what causes screen burn-in before knowing how to prevent it. The problem mainly occurs due to three factors: prolonged display of non-moving images, deterioration of phosphor compounds, and non-uniform use of sub-pixels.
Now, let's take a look at how you can prevent screen burn-in on your device.
Enable Auto or Adaptive Brightness
You have to let your phone automatically adjust brightness based on ambient light, which reduces prolonged exposure to high brightness levels that can accelerate pixel wear.
Set a Shorter Screen Timeout
Configure your screen to turn off automatically after a brief period of inactivity. This helps prevent static images from lingering too long on display.
Avoid Keeping Static Images for Long
Try not to leave still images, such as navigation maps or game menus, on your screen for extended periods. Rotating wallpapers or using dark mode can also help.
Pick Phones with High-Quality Displays
When buying a new phone, opt for models that feature display technologies with burn-in protection or pixel-shifting features to minimize long-term risks.
So, if you're an Honor X9b user, you should follow the preventive tips mentioned above to avoid screen burn-in. Keep in mind that, unlike some brands-such as OnePlus, which offers a lifetime warranty for green line-related issues-Honor may not provide free service if your device is out of warranty. Staying proactive can help protect your display and extend your phone's lifespan.
