What's New with iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and iPadOS 27? Top Features Apple Announced at WWDC 2026

Apple's latest software updates focus on improving intelligence, performance, and productivity across its ecosystem. iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate introduce a revamped Siri AI experience, deeper Apple Intelligence integration, faster system performance, and several workflow enhancements.

Rather than completely redesigning the user experience, Apple is refining existing features while making devices smarter and more responsive.

What's New with macOS 27, iPadOS 27, and iOS 27?

Siri AI Takes Center Stage

The biggest addition across Apple's platforms is Siri AI, a next-generation assistant designed to function more like a chatbot. On iPhone and iPad, Siri AI arrives as a dedicated app while remaining integrated throughout the operating system.

The assistant can understand context more effectively, interact with system apps, and work alongside Apple Intelligence features. Apple says the goal is to make Siri more useful in everyday tasks rather than limiting it to simple commands.

On macOS 27, Siri receives even deeper integration. Users can launch Siri through Spotlight and interact using either voice or text. The assistant now appears in an expandable conversation window and can maintain more natural interactions.

Siri can also work directly with files and apps. Users can ask it to summarize documents, pull information from files, or search messages and emails across devices. Conversation history can be synced privately through iCloud, allowing continuity across Apple hardware.

Apple Intelligence Expands Across the System

Apple Intelligence plays a much larger role in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. Rather than existing as separate tools, AI-powered capabilities are woven into everyday experiences.

The Mail app gains a new search model that prioritizes the most relevant results. Calendar also becomes smarter, allowing users to create or edit events using natural-language prompts instead of manually entering details.

Accessibility receives several upgrades as well. VoiceOver now provides richer image descriptions and improved understanding of surroundings. Apple is also introducing auto-generated synchronized subtitles and the ability to translate existing video captions, making content more accessible for a wider audience.

Faster Performance for Everyday Tasks

Performance improvements are another major focus of iOS 27. Apple claims app launches can be up to 30 percent faster, while newly captured photos may appear in the Photos library up to 70 percent quicker.

AirDrop also sees significant improvements. Transfers can be up to 80 percent faster thanks to improved handling between Wi-Fi and cellular networks, along with background system optimizations.

On iPadOS 27, external storage support becomes much faster. Apple says file browsing and transfers involving external drives can be up to five times quicker, which should benefit creators and professionals working with large files.

Messages and notifications also sync more efficiently across devices, helping unread counts and alerts remain consistent throughout the Apple ecosystem.

Liquid Glass Gets More Refinement

Apple continues to refine its Liquid Glass design language across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. One of the most notable additions is a transparency slider that allows users to customize the appearance of interface elements.

The updated design also introduces improved contrast, more consistent refraction effects, and sharper-looking app icons. These changes aim to improve readability while maintaining the visual depth introduced in previous versions.

macOS 27 expands customization further by allowing users to adjust window transparency from nearly transparent to fully opaque. Apple has also standardized window borders and shapes to create a cleaner and more consistent desktop experience.

New Productivity and Sharing Features

iPadOS 27 introduces a slideshow creation tool that can transform photos and videos into shareable presentations. Users can customize timing, transitions, and background music before exporting the final project as a video.

Apple is also improving collaboration. iCloud Shared Albums now support participation from Android and Windows users, allowing them to upload photos and access full-resolution content without requiring Apple devices.

Other ecosystem improvements include an upgraded Flyover experience in Maps and support for GymKit on iPhone and AirPods Pro 3. These additions help strengthen connections between Apple's software and hardware platforms.

Smarter Safari on macOS 27

Safari gains several AI-powered features in macOS 27. The browser can automatically organize open tabs into related topics, making large browsing sessions easier to manage.

Apple is also experimenting with AI-generated extensions. Users can describe an extension in natural language, and Safari will attempt to create a tool that performs the requested function.

Another addition is the "Notify Me" feature, which can monitor websites and alert users when specific content becomes available. This could be useful for tracking ticket sales, product launches, or other frequently updated pages.

Overall, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 focus on making Apple devices smarter, faster, and more capable. With Siri AI leading the charge and Apple Intelligence becoming more deeply integrated, the updates aim to improve everyday experiences without dramatically changing how users already work.
