iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro: Is the Rs 30,000 Price Jump Worth It?
The iPhone 18 Pro is here, but put it next to the iPhone 17 Pro and the differences aren't immediately obvious. Apple has kept the same 6.3-inch form factor, aluminium unibody design, and familiar triple-camera setup, so this isn't a dramatic visual overhaul.
Most of the important changes are happening underneath. The iPhone 18 Pro gets the new A20 Pro chip, a much larger vapor chamber, faster charging, better battery life, and a variable-aperture main camera.
There's also a considerably higher price attached to those upgrades. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 in India, compared with the iPhone 17 Pro's Rs 1,34,900 launch price. That's a Rs 30,000 difference, so let's see what you're actually getting for the extra money.

Performance and Battery
The biggest upgrade is the move from A19 Pro to A20 Pro. Apple's new chip is manufactured using a 2nm process and gets a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores in total.

Apple says the GPU is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro, while memory bandwidth has increased by 50%. The company has also reworked the cooling system significantly. The new vapor chamber has three times the surface area of the one used in the iPhone 17 Pro, helping Apple claim up to 40% better sustained performance.
Charging is quicker too. The iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% in around 15 minutes with a compatible wired charger, compared with around 20 minutes for the iPhone 17 Pro.
Cameras
Both phones still offer three 48MP rear cameras, but the new Main camera is where the iPhone 18 Pro pulls ahead.
The 48MP Fusion Main camera now gets variable aperture, allowing the phone to adjust aperture depending on lighting and depth of field. Users can also manually choose between four aperture settings through Apple's new Pro controls.

Apple has added manual controls for aperture, shutter speed, and white balance as well. Apple also says the new sensor improves low-light photography and overall detail.
The iPhone 17 Pro remains a very capable camera phone, though, so the biggest reason to move to the newer model is the added flexibility rather than a completely different camera experience.
Should You Upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro?
If you already own an iPhone 17 Pro, there's probably no urgent reason to upgrade after just one year.
The iPhone 18 Pro is faster, should maintain performance for longer, charges quicker, and gives photographers more control with variable aperture. It also introduces a 2TB storage option and a smaller Dynamic Island that can display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.

However, the iPhone 17 Pro already gives you a 120Hz display, three 48MP cameras, strong performance, a vapor chamber, and Apple Intelligence support.
The Rs 30,000 higher launch price makes the decision even easier for existing iPhone 17 Pro owners. Unless the camera controls, extra performance, or 2TB storage solve a specific problem for you, this feels more like a strong refinement than a must-have one-year upgrade.
For someone coming from an iPhone 15 Pro or an even older model, though, the cumulative improvements make the iPhone 18 Pro considerably more interesting.
