Vivo Unveils Android 16-Based OriginOS 6: Major UI Revamp, Eligible Devices, and Global Launch Date Inside
At the annual developer conference, Vivo has officially unveiled OriginOS 6, its next-generation Android skin based on Android 16, which replaces Funtouch OS. The refreshed interface takes design cues from Apple's Liquid Glass aesthetic, offering a more fluid and modern look.
Meanwhile, Vivo has also confirmed the global rollout of OriginOS 6. Here's a quick look at its key features, eligible devices, and India launch details.

OriginOS 6 Features
The latest OriginOS 6 update introduces circular app icons and widgets with rounded edges. This update also includes a real-time blur enhancement, progressive blur, and stacked notifications. Additionally, the new Atomic Island feature, inspired by Apple's Dynamic Island, allows users to control music playback and manage the stopwatch effortlessly.
Enhanced Performance with Blue River Smooth Engine
Vivo has incorporated the "Blue River Smooth Engine" into the Android 16-based OriginOS 6. This engine features super-core computing, dual-rendering architecture, and photonic storage. These enhancements aim to make animations and transitions smoother, providing a seamless experience. Vivo asserts that this will significantly improve touch responsiveness within apps, screen transitions, and scrolling frame rate stability.
The lockscreen in ColorOS 16 is receiving a significant upgrade with more widgets. It boasts improved AI integration, a Flux theme, enhanced animations, and new effects like light-filled and glass charging. Users can customise text on the lock screen while maintaining consistent fonts. Darker icons are also available for dark mode enthusiasts.
AI Tools and Features
OriginOS 6 brings an array of AI tools, which include an AI phone assistant, AI photo elimination, AI summary generation, and Circle to Search 2.0. The updated Circle to Search feature enables users to take screenshots and request information about objects from the AI assistant.
The update also introduces an AI image editor that enhances photo resolution, removes unwanted objects, and converts images into PDFs. The AI image editing capabilities extend beyond still images; users can now remove objects from Live Photos using the new Live Photo AI Removal feature.
Redesigned Control Centre
A redesigned control centre is part of the OriginOS 6 update. It offers customisable quick settings for a more personalised user experience. Additionally, a new "music lock screen" feature has been introduced for enhanced music control directly from the lock screen.
This comprehensive update aims to provide users with a more intuitive interface and improved functionality across various aspects of their devices.
OriginOS 6 Global Launch and Eligible Phones
The Android 16-based interface is scheduled for a global launch, including India, on October 15. The upcoming Vivo X300 series could be the first in India to ship with Origin OS 6, while iQOO 15 will likely be the first to run OriginOS 6 in the country.
Moreover, the OriginOS 6 Preview Program is already live for Vivo X200 Pro and iQOO 13 devices. Rumours suggest that even after the official launch, the update may initially roll out only to Vivo's X series. The company confirms that with OriginOS 6, users can expect the smoothest Android experience yet. Stay tuned with us for global announcement on October 15.
