Allwinner Launches A20 Soc: First Ever Dual Core A7 Chip With 50% More Efficiency
China based SoS manufacturing company Allwinner Technology has released the world's first dual-core Cortex A7 for smartphones. The cipset comes along with a dual-core Mali400MP2 GPU. The new CPU is said to support H.264 2160p video playback and full HD resolution video playback at 30 frames per second. Also, devices using A20 will be able to capture 720p resolution video at 60 frames per second.
The SoC which comes with support for Android 4.2.2. is said to come with five times the energy efficiency and 50% greater performance, compared to the previous generation Cortex-A8 architecture Processors.
The A20 is said to come integrated with HDMI transmitter, LVDS interface and TV decoder and supports dual camera sensors. Also, the chipset is apparently Google CTS approved and GMS ready.
Slashgear reports that even tho there is no information from the company's side, on which specific products would be released sporting the new processor, it could be released as an upgrade to a few existing products.
Allwinner chipsets quite very popular with Android devices such as tablets, TV sticks and more. Chinese Android device makers, particularly have taken a liking towards the Allwinner SoCs. The new A20 should aid the company, in it's efforts to push the boundaries of affordability, as it is claimed to come with enhanced energy efficiency. It will be interesting to see the list of device that will ship with the new processor.
