Remember the time when DOS games were slowly replaced by more livelier windows games? This marked the beginning of a revolution, a new beginning which would eventually lead gamers to virtual worlds that would become an escape from the real one. There is a growing fear that gaming is loosing it's charm, the world has seen everything there is to be seen. There is really no base for this because games have been changing rapidly, taking new dimensions, but barely have been redundant. Titles like Max Payne, World of Warcraft, Halo, final fantasy series, Zelda series and destiny have changed the face of gaming for ever. Of course the success of these games depend on the new hardwares that are coming in.
Gaming consoles like playstation, xbox, nintendo wii have provided a platform for games to take a completely different shape and now that the next generation versions of these consoles are coming up, the birth of new concepts like a virtual world that never sleeps, cloud gaming are taking shape. AMD scored a major win this year, with the next-gen consoles, Playstation 4 and Xbox One featuring AMD's A-series APU's and the new-gen Nintendo wii also featuring their AMD Radeon HD GPU. However, this is not as far as it goes for the multinational semiconductor company, is has much bigger plans. AMD is curently working towards bringing a range of products that could bring 4D gaming experience to life. We are talking about Iron Man kind of a user interface here.
If you are a passionate gamer, mark the Year 2020 in you mental calender, because things are never going to be the same again. Kadagattur Srinidhi, director of Product Application Engineering, AMD made a startling announcement that the company is working on a future-generation technology that could place a player in the middle of a virtual world.
Imagine this, you are in the middle of a forest and you look around in every direction possible and all you see is a dense jungle and the bright blue sky on top. You are walking along and you come across a fallen sword which you can pick up with your bare hands. You are still walking and now you hear a distant water-fall, as you walk towards it, the sound of the moving waters becomes louder and louder. Srinidhi spoke to GizBot regarding this new technology and claimed that all of the above will be possible with the help of a series of projectors that are capable of delivering holographic images.
The whole system will be equipped with sensors that will react on even the slightest move a player makes - automatically making changes to the projectors and the audio monitors.Intel recently announced it's new Creative Senz 3D at computex which allows users to pick up objects in the screen via gestures. With AMD's future-technology, you will be able to pick objects up and they will appear to be in your hands.
What's even more enticing is, Srinidhi says the system will be equipped with devices that can make a room vibrate to make it seam like an earth quake or blow air towards you to make it seam like wind. We are taking about gaming in scales of 4D technology. A technology that could blur the line between what's real and what's not.
