Meta's Ray-Ban Glasses Can Now Walk You to Your Destination Hands-Free

Meta is bringing one of the genuinely useful tricks from its pricey Ray-Ban Display down to its cheaper, displayless smart glasses. With the new v128 software update, turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation is rolling out to the standard Ray-Ban Meta and Meta Glasses lineup, which means you can now get walking directions read out to you without owning the $799 Display model or reaching for your phone.

The way it works makes sense once you remember these glasses have no screen. You simply say something like "Hey Meta, navigate to Times Square," and the glasses guide you there by voice through the open-ear speakers. There is a sensible limit built in too. On-glasses navigation is meant for walking to places nearby, so if your destination is further away, Meta AI instead pushes a notification to your phone with proper driving directions rather than trying to narrate a long car journey into your ear.

A Smoother Way to Start a Walk

There is also a second, quieter way to trigger it that a lot of people will end up preferring. You can open the mapping app on your phone, find the spot you want to walk to, hit Share, and pick Meta AI from the list. Navigation then starts on your connected glasses automatically. It is a small touch, but it neatly solves the awkwardness of trying to dictate a fiddly street name or an unfamiliar restaurant to a voice assistant.

Navigation was one of the stronger reasons to spend up on the Display glasses, where directions appear as prompts on the in-lens screen. Porting the idea to the audio-only glasses fits the pattern Meta has followed all year, letting features debut on the flagship and then filter down to the rest of the range once the software is ready.

Will it Work in India?

Here is where I would keep expectations in check for readers here. Meta says walking directions are live across the USA, Puerto Rico, Canada, and a set of select global cities, which is the polite way of saying it is not everywhere yet. Given how limited and largely unofficial Meta's smart glasses presence still is in India, anyone here who imported a pair should treat city support as a wait-and-see rather than a guarantee, and temper hopes about how cleanly the walking directions will read local streets.

The same v128 update quietly bundles a few other upgrades worth knowing about. There is a new Spatial Audio option for a richer take on the stereo you already listen to, available on the Ray-Ban Meta 2 Optics and Meta Glasses collection. Mandarin Chinese joins the list of supported languages across device controls, calling, messaging, media and Meta AI. And Meta says it has continued tightening its anti-tampering protections around the camera, an ongoing sore point given the privacy worries that have followed these glasses since day one.
